Restoring connection, breathing inspiration, and forging honest collaboration in a remote working world.

Remote collaboration has left us wanting and the fatigue of social distancing is real. When we’re invited to yet another Zoom call, we can’t help but to feel emotionally spent at the thought of over staring at ourselves, bracing for chopped up audio, and bearing through non-engaging presentations where cat videos on your phone are a welcome distraction.

With work becoming remote by default, we can apply design-thinking methods to discover how best to collaborate remotely. How might we build high-trust working relationships when we aren’t able to grab a drink together? How do we create an inclusive environment that breaks down bystander effects? How do we check for engagement and alignment when everyone’s video is off and there’s no way to read the room?

This interactive workshop will cover the specific remote methods, tips and tricks that have been used successfully and unsuccessfully through a year of remote work at Wattpad. Andrew Chak, Wattpad’s Head of Experience Design, will share his lessons learned for growing high-trust working relationships, facilitating inclusive ideation sessions, and delivering engaging presentations that influence decision-making. So if you’re tired of the common Zoom call or if others are tired of the common Zoom calls you deliver, then this session will help your next remote collaboration be something that you can look more forward to.

Andrew Chak is Head of Experience Design at Wattpad where he focuses on making Wattpad Stories the best part of every reader’s and every writer’s day. Prior to Wattpad, Andrew was Head of User Experience at Rogers and Associate Vice President, Digital Customer Experience at TD. Andrew spends his days defining digital strategy, championing user research, and iterating through designs and experiences that deliver user value.
